<p>The School of Art + Art History + Design is excited to announce an opportunity for three tenure-track faculty appointments, two in the Division of Art and one in the Division of Design. <p>Two museums near Seattle — <a href="https://www.cascadiaartmuseum.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Cascadia Art Museum</a> in Edmonds and the <a href="https://www.monamuseum.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Museum of Northwest Art</a> in La Conner — currently have exhibitions that include former faculty and alums.</p>
<p>The School of Art + Art History + Design is pleased to announce publication of the <a href="https://2022.uwsoaahdgradshow.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">2022 Graduate Showcase</a>. This website documents, in part, the <em>2022 MFA + MDes Thesis Exhibition</em>, which took place at the Henry Art Gallery from May 27 through June 26. It also presents the work of two Art History MA students who completed their degrees this year.
<p>Congratulations to Tiffany-Ashton Gatsby! They were one of two graduating University of Washington undergraduates awarded a 2022 President's Medal. UW President Ana Mari Cauce presented the medal to Gatsby on June 9 at the <a href="https://www.washington.edu/facultystaff/2022-awards-of-excellence/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Awards of Excellence</a> ceremony.</p>
<p>The UW Simpson Center for the Humanities <a href="https://simpsoncenter.org/article/announcing-spring-2022-funding-round-…; target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">announced at the end of May</a> their second book fellowships, collaborative project awards, and support for graduate research clusters for the 2022–2023 season. Two Art History faculty and two Art History graduate students received funding.</p>
<p>Adam Kingman received his Bachelor of Design degree in Industrial Design in 2014. He won the third season of Making It, a television competition, in 2021. The College of Arts & Sciences published a <a href="https://artsci.washington.edu/news/2022-01/designer-reflects-making-it&…; target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">story about his win</a> in early 2022.</p>
<p>Alexander Betz received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History with departmental honors in June 2022. He had a minor in Classical Studies and a second degree in Biochemistry. He was the Division of Art History’s undergraduate speaker for the School’s 2022 Graduation Celebration. Below is the text of his speech.</p>
<p>Tiffany-Ashton Gatsby received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art in June 2022, with departmental honors and a concentration in Interdisciplinary Visual Art. They had a second major in Anthropology, specializing in Medical Anthropology and Global Health, and a Diversity minor. In 2021, Gatsby was selected as a member of the <a href="/news/2021/06/19/two-2021-husky-100">Husky 100</a>. Just prior to graduation, they were announced as a <a href="/news/2022/06/27/presidents-medalist">UW President’s Medalist</a>.</p>
