Indira Allegra: The Book of Zero

Death is a fundamental first step to rebirth, but this transition can be a daunting prospect without a compassionate guide. Our 2026 Jacob Lawrence Legacy Resident, Indira Allegra, intervenes with The Book of Zero, a multimedia meditative experience that brings together powerful sensations and visuals that have emerged during Allegra&#8217;s investigations into doula work, death care, and cycles of the body and environment.<br /><br />In <em>The Book of Zero</em>, water, weaving, and projections animate the earth and its afflictions.

Rob Rhee – Tenure + Promotion Talk

As part of the Division of Art&#8217;s promotion and tenure process, IVA Assistant Professor Rob Rhee will present his ongoing research on bricolage as a creative practice and its agricultural connections.&#160;<br /><br />Rhee has been working with plant biologists at UW, the Frank Lab at Cornell, and the UW Farm on a project that uses grafting as a sculptural process for creating live plant collage.

Woven in Wool: Resilience in Coast Salish Weaving

<strong>Embrace the power of wool weaving in all its forms. Centuries-old Coast Salish weaving traditions are a core part of ceremony and celebration, yet remain under-appreciated by the public.</strong><br /><br /><em>Woven in Wool</em> features both historical Salish wool weavings and new creations by contemporary weavers, including robes, vests, tunics, tumplines, and skirts, as well as weaving tools and materials.

Rob Rhee: Crossings – Opening Reception

The Jacob Lawrence Gallery is pleased to present&#8239; <em>Crossings,&#160;</em>featuring the work of Rob Rhee, Assistant Professor of Interdisciplinary Visual Art and Chair of the Interdisciplinary Visual Art program at the University of Washington School of Art + Art History + Design.&#8239;&#160;<br />&#8239;&#160;<br /><em>Crossings</em>&#8239; brings together newly completed bricolage sculptures from Rhee&#8217;s studio with research initiated this spring at the UW Farm.
