Faculty Concert: Bonnie Whiting, Through The Eye(s)

<blockquote><i><i>Faculty percussionist Bonnie Whiting presents Through the Eye(s), a cycle of pieces for solo speaking and singing percussionist developed in collaboration with nine incarcerated people at the Indiana Women's Prison. </i></i>The program opens with Whiting's realization of faculty composer Melia Watras's graphic score, "Barking up which tree?" </blockquote>

Concerto Competition: Strings

<blockquote>
<p>UW strings students Dalma Ashby, Eugene Chin, Hannah Chou, Christine Chu, and Elena Allen perform for outside judges, competing for a chance to perform with the UW Symphony. Adjudicators for this competition are <span>Brendan Shea, concertmaster of the Boise Philharmonic, and Susan Gulkis Assadi, principal violist of the Seattle Symphony.</span></p>

Faculty Recital: Melia Watras: The almond tree duos

<blockquote><span>Violist/composer Melia Watras, violinists Tekla Cunningham, Rachel Lee Priday and Michael Jinsoo Lim, photographer Michelle Smith-Lewis and narrator Tigran Arakelyan present the world premiere of Watras’s new work, </span><i class>The almond tree duos. </i><span>The title references the symbol of hope and new beginnings in Oscar Wilde’s</span><i class> The Canterville Ghost.

Modern Band and UW Jazz Faculty

<p>The UW Modern Band (Cuong Vu, advisor) performs music by Benny Golson, John Coltrane, Wayne Shorter, Thelonious Monk, and others. In the second half of the program, Jazz Studies faculty Marc Seales (piano), Ted Poor (drums), and Steve Rodby (bass) perform original music by Seales and arrangements of select cover tunes.</p>
