Film Screening: DIS Collective

DIS is a New York-based collective composed of Lauren Boyle, Solomon Chase, Marco Roso, and David Toro. Its cultural interventions are manifest across a range of media and platforms, from site-specific museum and gallery exhibitions to ongoing online projects. Across its various endeavors, DIS explores the tension between popular culture and institutional critique, while facilitating projects for the most public and democratic of all forums—the Internet. DIS has recently shown work at Frieze Art Fair, New Museum Triennial, Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, MoMA, and more.

Remembering and Reimagining Environmental Histories and Futures: a writing workshop with Rasheena Fountain

Organized in conversation with Nina Chanel Abney’s exhibition Fishing Was His Life, this workshop invites participants to reflect on their own relationships to the environment and factors that threaten those connections. Guided by writer Rasheena Fountain’s approach to Black environmental memory, this workshop will give people of color the opportunity to remember erased pasts and write visions toward new environmental narratives.

Public Opening: Thick as Mud

Join us in celebration of the opening of Thick as Mud, a group exhibition that explores the intimate relations humans have with mud. Enjoy art, drinks, music, and pick up some Henry swag! Ongoing exhibitions include Nina Chanel Abney: Fishing Was His Life, this was a densely wooded hill, and Donna Huanca: MAGMA SLIT. Henry members receive two free drink tickets! ADMISSION This event is free and open to the public.

Patron Preview: Thick as Mud

Henry Patron members are invited to a special preview of our latest exhibition, Thick as Mud, curated by Nina Bozicnik. Join us for remarks at 6:15 PM. Light hors d'oeuvres and drinks provided. Everyone is welcome to attend the Public Opening from 7 – 9 PM. ADMISSION This event is complimentary for Henry Patron Circle members and invited guests. Gallery Conversation with ektor garcia

Join us for a conversation between ektor garcia and Henry Curator Nina Bozicnik in conjunction with the opening of ektor garcia: matéria prima. Together they will discuss the development of the exhibition, the traditions that inspire garcia’s materials and methods, and how questions of labor and metamorphosis guide his creative vision. ektor garcia earned a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a MFA from Columbia University.

Math Bass: Selected Videos

In conjunction with the closing of Math Bass’s a picture stuck in the mirror and the performance if I could sing you back (featuring Bass and collaborator Eden Batki), the Henry will feature three of Bass’s short films that resonate with the exhibition. The films will be on view on a continuous loop for a limited time, March 5 - 6, in the Henry auditorium. Drop in anytime or view them directly before the performances! ABOUT THE ARTIST Math Bass earned their BA from Hampshire College and MFA from the University of California, Los Angeles.

if i could sing you back: a performance with Math Bass & Eden Batki

Math Bass ushered in the opening of a picture stick in the mirror with a performance in which they embodied and mimed the mechanics of the exhibition’s concealed kinetic sculpture through movement and vocalization, enhancing the sculpture’s suggestion of continual presence. On the occasion of the exhibition’s closing, Bass will be returning to the Henry to extend and develop the original performance with collaborator Eden Bakti.
