Museum Guide Interns

The Henry Art Gallery and the School of Art + Art History + Design have long partnered on educational projects. One of these is the Museum Guide Program and its internship course. Starting in autumn quarter, eight students joined program manager Berette Macaulay for weekly sessions that introduced the students to the work of contemporary art interpretation and community engagement within a museum setting. Due to the pandemic, classes were normally on Zoom, but they did manage one in-person outing in late October.

Parnassus Gallery Online

Parnassus, the cafe in the basement of the Art Building, has also served as a gallery for student work and other exhibitions over the years. With the arrival of COVID-19 and the closure of the Art Building, this venue has not been available. A group of enterprising students, with help from two staff members, have come together to create an online version of the Parnassus Gallery.

Background

Yoder received his MFA in Fiber Arts in 1987. Since then, he has worked on his own art practice, and he became a gallerist when he founded SEASON in 2010. Tela Real, an Instagram-only gallery, is his most recent venture.

Critical Issues Lecture Series

Series

The 2021 Critical Issues Lecture Series takes place on Friday afternoons during winter quarter. It is organized by the School of Art + Art History + Design in collaboration with the Henry Art Gallery. The general public is invited to join degree-seeking individuals studying fine art in order to share ideas and raise questions about contemporary art. In addition to the public lectures, undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in ART 361/561 interface with the speakers in additional sessions.

Autumn Activities

Warmest congratulations to our students, faculty, and staff for completing an autumn quarter like no other. While the hallways of the Art Building were unusually empty and void of end-of-quarter work for final critiques, the digital realm is very much alive. We are pleased to share with you some of the activities that occurred throughout the past few months within the UW and out in our broader creative community.
